  WORKSAFE SMART MOVE

curriculum framework . . .    

In line with the philosophy of the Curriculum Framework WorkSafe Smart Move encourages students to become self-motivated and confident in their approach to learning.

WorkSafe Smart Move is directly relevant to secondary school courses that specify occupational safety and health outcomes and is particularly relevant to the increasing number of students undertaking courses where learning in the workplace is part of the curriculum.

WorkSafe Smart Move enables students to learn about occupational safety and health before they undertake work experience placements and also provides teachers with information to use to meet Curriculum Framework outcomes related to occupational safety and health.

Relevance to secondary school courses

Information in WorkSafe Smart Move is relevant to the secondary school courses listed below that specify occupational safety and health outcomes.

Year 11 and 12 Industry-Related Studies

Outcome V3: Students will be able to demonstrate relevant occupational health and safety practices required by industry.

Structured Workplace Learning (SWL)

Structured Workplace Learning programs include INSTEP, Fast Track and Traineeships. These programs all include occupational safety and health as part of their skills lists. These skills lists are related to the Key Competencies, which can be mapped to Vocational Outcomes, which in turn are derived from the Curriculum Framework.

Year 11 Work Studies

Learning about the world of work relates to:

Outcome 4: Investigates and reports on current and future work options and work related issues.

The relevant component requires the student to demonstrate the outcome by describing the role of occupational safety and health in the workplace.

Year 12 Work Studies

Learning about the world of work relates to:

Outcome 3: Applies problem-solving strategies to work place procedures and issues.

The relevant component requires that the student demonstrate the outcome by identifying and discussing the significance of occupational safety and health issues.

Year 11 Career and Industry Awareness

Outcome C2: Within the context of the vocational program students will demonstrate an understanding of the workplace.

This course includes an assessment task that focuses on occupational safety and health (Research and present information - written and oral - to the class on safe working conditions, incorporating some group work) and suggested activities for developing key competencies that include the WorkSafe Smart Move certificate, specific industry hazards and hazards checklists.

Links between WorkSafe Smart Move and the Curriculum Framework

WorkSafe Smart Move is directly related to the Health and Physical Education; Society and Environment; and Technology and Enterprise Learning Areas of the Curriculum Framework.

Supplementary activities included in WorkSafe Smart Move are also related to the Arts and English Learning Areas of the Curriculum Framework.
