In April 2019, Private Sector Labour Relations conducted an education campaign promoting compliance by takeaway food businesses with the child employment provisions in the Children and Community Services Act 2004.
Over 260 businesses across Western Australia were provided with information on child employment laws for this industry. The Children and Community Services Act regulates the employment of children. Only certain types of businesses can employ children under 15 years of age, and there are restrictions on when they can work. These child employment laws apply to all Western Australian employers.
Following the education component of the campaign, selected businesses are now being audited by industrial inspectors from Private Sector Labour Relations to ensure that children are not being employed or otherwise engaged in breach of the Children and Community Services Act.
